The Great Gatsby
Describe what you appreciate about the novel—"what you appreciate" might include writing techniques you'd like to learn to use, what you learned from a "zeitgeist" novel, what you saw in the story, characters, settings, etc.
The Great Gatsby has honestly been one of my favorite books. The entire book I was completely engaged and if didn't read it in class, with a schedule, I could probably finish it in a few hours. I really appreciate the character development in the book. Personally I feel in love with Nick Caraway, the narrator probably because he is most like me. Nick's little quirks made it very easy to picture the scenes where he was observing some kind of drama. I would like to use this in my story because I think it makes it more interesting and easier for the reader to connect with the story. I also appreciate the setting because it set the tone for the whole book. I love the 1920's so that might give me some bias but I discovered that the weather was a symbol. When it was very hot outside there was emotional tension building. I have started to do this in my story because it is based in Seattle, a very rainy city. Due to the wet weather, my main character likes to stay inside in her fort with her dog and sing. Overall, Fitzgerald's techniques as an author has inspired me to try new things with my writer to help create entertaining stories for this project and the future.
