QCCQ: Mastery Mindset
Q - Quote
“As Carol Dweck says, “Effort is one of the things that gives meaning to life. Effort means that you care about something, that something is important to you and you are willing to work for it. It would be an impoverished existence if you were not willing to value things and commit yourself to working towards them.” (125)
C - Comment
I chose this quote because it is a great way of looking at effort. Carol Dweck makes the point that if we did put effort into things, it would be a boring life. There would be not passions, goals and perseverance. Dweck looks at effort as the opportunity to grow and improve on your skills. This is something that everyone should practice rather the rewards of efforts.
C - Connection
This has a strong connection to me and my academic career. When it comes to my grades, I used to be very obsessive about points and taking every extra credit opportunity. I assumed that if I put effort into school I would be rewarded with a good grade. This is completely false, though because grades are not solely based on effort. It is a great first step by showing that you care but you need to understand the concepts. Over that last year I have pushed my thinking and my growth mindset about effort has improved. I have different goals and intentions when it comes to my education. In conclusion, when it comes to school and effort, I think it is extremely important to come ready to learn and enthusiastic about work. You must show effort in order to be successful in any area of life.
Q - Question
Why did the conductor of the experiment select a group that demonstrated a generalized anxiety disorder over any other mental illness?
