Focus of Presentation: Educate the public about sea life and how to reduce pollution
Notes:
-Gray whales are 15 feet at birth and get up to 50 feet as an adult
-They have two nostrils used for breathing
-They blow a 10-12 foot mist of warm, moist air which condenses into a visible vapor as it is expelled from the lungs
-They migrate 4 summer months, 3 fall months, 2 winter months and 3 spring months
-Pregnant females lead the way south leaving the feeding grounds in early October
-Mature breeding adults leave next followed by immature whales and yearlings
-In March the order is reversed
-Forming in the north Pacific and driven by prevailing northwesterly winds and Earth’s rotation, the California current flows south along the west coast of North America
-Upwelling is the vertical flow of cold, nutrient-rich water from greater depths that replace warmer surface water

Name of Presenter: Self guided beach clean up and hike with family and friends
Lecture/Event Site: Torrey Pines, Del Mar
Focus of Presentation: Clean the beach by picking up bottles, cans and plastic bags with family and friends and getting exercise by hiking after cleaning.
Notes:
-Torrey Pines State Beach runs for three miles between Carmel Valley Road and the Glider Port at Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. The beach here is well covered by sand, with few exposed rocks, readily passable at all but the highest tides. There is also access from above via two challenging hiking trails - one in the State Park and another beginning at the Gliderport.
